Bus Challenge No 22!
Headed to foreign climes again today on the bus, but no passport was needed to cross the Severn Bridge into Wales and to the historic town of Chepstow on the banks of the River Wye.
An early start to the day (was in the Bristol Park and Ride car park by 8.38am!!!) meant that my friend and I had lots of time to potter around the town of Chepstow in glorious sunshine, as well as exploring the famous castle.
"Chepstow Castle (Welsh: Cas-gwent), ...on top of cliffs overlooking the River Wye, is the oldest surviving post-Roman stone fortification in Britain. Its construction was begun under the instruction of the Norman Lord William fitzOsbern, soon made Earl of Hereford, from 1067, and it was the southernmost of a chain of castles built along the English–Welsh border in the Welsh Marches." A stroll along the banks of the River Wye took us to a lovely little café where we rounded off the day with a cream tea! As we made our way home, my rucksack today was filled with Welsh cheese, beer and cider, Barra Brith and Welsh Cakes, as well as a lovely old Mason and Cash stoneware basin that I picked up in a junk shop. So now I can use it to make my own Barra Brith!
Total bus journey times = 2h 25 mins
Total waiting times in between buses = 35 mins
Total bus journey time = 3h
I have changed the format of my collage as I decided that I wanted to highlight my favourite photo which shows the castle's dramatic location, towering above the cliffs of the River Wye.
