Meadow Brown
It seems Northern Rail have been assessing the resilience of the Wharfedale and Airedale lines in advance of the weekend's Tour de France mania. Which would be why a train journey of 12 minutes took about 90 this morning, including being evicted one stop down the line. The only up side being that stop happens to have a butterfly meadow which provides something to do while waiting for trains.
Hopefully things will be running more smoothly on Saturday when we will be taking the train to within walking distance of our chosen viewing spot.
Meanwhile, the Meadow Browns have been out for a few weeks now, but I'd yet to blip one yet this year. The evening light on this example in Hallcliffe Community Garden shows this one off nicely.
The Ringlets are massing; my evening count is now up to 40+ on just the small stretch of moor that forms part of my walk home. There's no sign yet of the Small Skippers or the Gatekeepers, but they should be with us soon.
Today did bring the first of the summer Commas though.
