Lakeland Dipper 3

Derwentwater with Skiddaw in the background

A warm, if a little choppy swim after work.
Lots of orchids out - not sure I'd like to be called common and spotty but they seem to cope well with it amongst the bog myrtle which was giving off a lovely scent on this warm evening.

Bog myrtle -  by Stewart Conn

Evenly spread on bunk beds
in the room above, bog-myrtle lay
drying – till it was taken south

for beer making. What lingers
is its scent – so that I imagine
some young couple trysting here

(not Diarmid and Grainne, but a less
fated pair), a blessing on them:
legacy of its fragrance in the air.

Meanwhile I’ll leave this poem between
the sheets. Will it curl curiously,
or just fade away? We’ll see.
