Do You Hear The People Sing?
Canada celebrates her 147th birthday today.
We rounded up the kids to take advantage of the festivities, and to celebrate all things Canadian.
Coming from an immigrant family, whose home city is under much political turmoil, I have learned not to take the freedom, democracy and human right we enjoy here for granted. No country is perfect and Canada is no exception. You might hear me complain and rant, but at the very least I can do so without worrying about repercussions. This is precisely why I appreciate Canada so much.
Unfortunately I cannot say the same for my people in Hong Kong today. Democracy was promised but slowly striped away, as we move further away from the British Colonial days.
As I celebrated with the Canadians today, my heart was with my fellow Hongkongers who are fighting.
May the voice of the People be heard.
