peony seedpod

twelve days ago i blipped a photo of the first peony of the season. it was day of celebration. http://www.blipfoto.com/entry/4476287

today the last peony in my garden dropped its petals. it is a day of sadness. i wonder how something so beautiful and so dear to my heart could last for such a short time. i remind myself to be patient, the flowers will come again next year. i rationalize that they wouldn't be so special if they bloomed all year long.

i am blipping a photo of the seedpod of the same peony i published twelve days ago. i've never really looked at the seedpod of a peony. in the past, i just dead-headed them, unsightly reminders of flowers lost. today, i see the beauty in their quiet strength. i will leave them be this year.
