Humpback Whale Off North Pender Island, BC
We left Ganges Harbour this morning, after a very windy night on the government dock. We had a lovely dinner out at Calvin's, and the wind started kicking up...always glad to be at the dock on a windy night:))
About 11am just as we were passing the north end of Pender Island, Bob spotted a humpback whale. We had been scanning the seas for Orcas, as we had just heard that all three pods had joined as a "super pod" yesterday...so the last thing we thought we'd see was a humpback!! I was able to get off 4 shots before he dove down...when he resurfaced about 4 minutes later, he was way off from us going north.
Then we ran into two "bait balls" near Turnpoint Lighthouse on Stuart Island...and I loved the hundreds of gulls and other seabirds that were trying to get in on the food! Amazing to watch them in such a frenzy.

We got back to Roche Harbor just before noon...there are sure a lot of people here...so glad we are on an outside dock away from the hubbub!!!
