Rain stops play.
Here you have two of the real Dublin street traders, complete with their trademark perambulators. They are a bit p****ed off because the rain is ruining business. Generations of the same families have worked this part of Dublin for a long time. The prams of choice are either Pedigree or Silver Cross. I gigged twice a week for seven years in a pub a few yards from here.
That was many years ago and there were many more traders in those days. They all drank in that pub at night. They were the most glamorous and colourful people you've ever seen, and that was just the men. The girls dripped with jewelry. They were also the best fun. It was a privilege to be accepted into their circle.
They have been slowly pushed from their traditional pitch in Moore street (by council regulations mainly) up to Mary Street, where there is less business. But they haven't gone away, you know, and I hope they never do.
They even have their own tribute.
