Romance

A steam train with great presence, maroon and cream livery.
Waiting for the points to change, the local electric diesel to pass.
Impossible not to feel she deserved right of way.

Just time to peer through the high windows, glimpse fine china, champagne flutes, silver vases, three-tiered cake stands.

Then the Northern Belle slid smoothly northwards.
Leaving a trail of steam and nostalgia.
