And a birthday gal too - Tom and I have taken Shirley out for birthday breakfast for the last 20 years or so on her day, the 4th of July (since she was widowed) - 87 years old today and still spunky, sharp and so delightfully old-fashioned.

Shirley:
-wears aprons
-writes notes to anyone who has a birthday, is ill, has graduated, gotten married, experienced loss
-or is just in need of cheering up
-collects stamps
-has the most amazing mountaineer book collection and she has never set foot on much of a hillock let alone a mountain
-was a career librarian
-but just in general makes you think of times when things were more simple and straightforward. God love the Shirley's of the world!
