Through the Bishop's Eye....
....to Wells market place.
"The Bishop's Eye in Wells, Somerset, is an entrance gateway into a walled precinct, the Liberty of St Andrew, which encloses the twelfth century Cathedral, the Bishop's Palace, Vicar's Close and the residences of the clergy who serve the cathedral.
The Bishop's Eye was built around 1450, by Bishop Thomas Beckington, and provides the entrance to the Bishop's Place.... It...has been designated as a Grade I listed building." Wikipedia
A sunny morning visit to Wells to visit the market, and to show the sights to 'The Godmother'. After passing through the Bishop's Eye, we headed for the moat around the Bishop's Palace to have a look at the famous swans of Wells. This year there are nine healthy cygnets, yes nine!! (For more information about the Bishop's swans, see here for an earlier blip and info.)
As always, Wells is a pleasure to visit, and today I came away from the market with some tasty Somerset Brie and a Dill plant, a delicious accompaniment to new potatoes with butter!
'The Godmother' was safely delivered to the railway station in Bath, then home to enjoy the Ladies' Final at Wimbledon, the closing stages of the first day of the Tour de France and now the first of two World Cup matches. Anybody would think I enjoy watching sport!!
