Common Hawker emerging

So here I am still standing ankle-deep in boggy water! This time blipping dragonflies not flowers. A lovely sunny day saw Four Spotted Chasers, White Faced Darters, Black Darters, Common Hawkers, Common Blue Damselflies, Blue Tailed Damselflies, Large Red Damselflies and Emerald Damselflies on the wing. In the heather this Common Hawker was emerging from it's exuvia (case). It is amazing how something twice the size and beautiful comes from something less than pleasant to look at. Here it hangs soft and limp below the case. It then pumps fluid round it's body and wings, which then dry and harden. Takes a few hours and looks exhausting!
