Worth It For The Views
We started the day with a visit to The Real Mary King's Close, just off Princes Street. One of the many Close's that run down from The Royal Mile. Hundreds of people used to live in tiny rooms, built several stories high on the side of very steep and narrow paths where everyone threw out their toilet waste shouting "Guardy Loo"twice a day. It would run down the Close into the North Loch which was their only supply of water!
The Castle was our next visit and we timed it so we could see the 1 o'clock gun.
A walk down The Royal Mile, mingling with all the smartly dressed people who were attending the Garden Party at the Palace, and on to Holyrood Park to climb Arthur's Seat.
It appears we went up the hard way via Salisbury Crags - a very steep and narrow path then took us to the very top - but the views were worth it!
