Genoese tower, Porto at sunset

This is the view from our terrace, a citadel set on a rock overlooking the west coast of Corsica. The local people would retreat there when the look-out spotted pirates approaching.
This afternoon we walked up the gorge of Spelunca surrounded by aromatic herbs and trees, lizards and birdsong. Up in the foothills we found a deep river pool where we could plunge into the cool silky clear water before drying off in the sun on the warm rocks. Life does not often get much better than this.
