Frosty Start

It was a cold start before heading off for Dads memorial - but the reception was so wonderfully warm.

Dads 2nd home for about 50 years was Lothianburn Golf Club - he was Captain, Seniors Capt, he designed the club logo and the major extension to the clubhouse and wrote a book on the history of the club for its centenary year.

Due to this we thought the clubhouse was the best venue for a gathering to his memory since there will be no funeral (having donated his body to medical research) and he was an athiest.

We thought there might be 50-60 people turn up .......... there were nearly 90.

It was really nice to hear so many people frrom so many walks of life talking about Dad with such warmth and affection.

Modesty and being a gentleman (in all senses) were the sentiments that seemed to come accross most strongly to me.

What more can we ask of life than those we leave behind all think so well of us.

Dad used to be an avid photographer and hillwalker and took hundreds of pictures of Edinburgh and the golfclub from Allermuir hill..... so I thought it apt to take a shot of the hill from outside the golfclub as we left.

Later we all met at my sisters house and had had fish and chips (something Dad always bought on a Saturday after spending the day at the club) and played board games - but not Monopoly because my sister, like Dad, is fiercly competative to the point of murderous when playing that.

All in all - a good day
