MonoMonday - Roads

I wonder how many different countries build roads around trees? I know it has been done in USA but not sure where else. We love our Aussie gum trees, and many years ago, an enlightened local Council left this tree in the centre of the road, and divided the road to either side.

The house on the left of the photo has very friendly owners. We were walking past one day, and as is my habit, I struck up a conversation with the owner who was watering his garden. He told us how he had lived in the house for 40 odd years and that he had built that wonderful stone fence himself. It is a lovely property in a beautiful street.
