A wet Monday in Puigcerda

There are better places to be when it's pouring with rain and you haven't got any transport. I foolishly left my jacket in the car, not that it would have been much protection. So when the rain briefly stopped we decided to walk into town and buy something weatherproof. But Puigcerda is closed on Mondays, except for a couple of small supermarkets. We ended up getting a taxi to the out-of-town Carrefour purely to buy an umbrella. If we'd had a car we'd certainly have spent the afternoon at a nice spa. Instead I had a siesta while S tested the umbrella by walking to Bourg Madame in the pouring rain.

Still, it wasn't all bad. In the early evening it cleared up, so we went for a walk up to the pretty reservoir at the top of the town, where we saw geese, ducks, swans and one little mallardling. Then we returned to the main square and climbed the belltower to admire the view (blip). On the way back we stopped at a tapas bar where we were the only customers, and had simple but excellent tapas; my favourite was a single massive beef tomato cut into four thick slices (which filled the whole plate) and simply seasoned with salt, pepper, olive oil and balsamic vinegar; it was delicious.
