Wimpole Hall
We visited this stately home today, parts of which date back to 1640. It was very interesting and had a library housing the biggest collection of books in the National Trust's archive. Several people were working away restoring some that had been stained by a water leak. One of them proclaimed in triumph that she had finally finished her work on one book that had taken 12 weeks. I cynically wondered if she says this every 10 minutes so that each group of people think they've witnessed a historic moment! ;-)). The last owner of the house was the daughter of Rudyard Kipling, prior to the National Trust taking over. Another free visit for us as members! It only cost us £9 because we bought some items in the cafe. It was amazing how the forecast heavy rain held off until 5 pm. - just as we were heading back to the car. We were able to enjoy the grounds and sit outside the cafe in hot sunshine.
