We have posted several shots of views from on high and so we thought we would show something a bit different today.
We followed the lakeside route from Le Bourget du Lac on our way to the Abbey of Hautcombe. This is a magnificent abbey containing the tombs of the royalty of Savoie over several centuries. A magnificently ornate building where, unfortunately, photography wasn't permitted. It contains the tombs of St Boniface who was the Archbishop of Canterbury, and another tomb is that of the wife of Henry III of England. We had several stops en route and looked down on the Abbey as if from a plane! At one of the viewpoints the undergrowth of bushes on the steep hillside below was being cleared by workmen secured by rope to the trees above!
As can probably be seen from this shot, the rain arrived in torrents! Hence the back blip!
This is looking across the Lac de Bourget to Aix les Baines without sunshine!
