Beautiful Butterflies in the Making

I spotted this group of tiny caterpillars, no more than about 1cm long, in the garden today on some decaying nettle leaves, There were a lot of them wriggling around, so i saw an opportunity for yet another subject for my monochrome Blip!
They will become Small Tortoiseshell butterflies, as long as they survive, so I look forward to seeing even more of them next year.
Incidentally Nettles are good for the garden, folks, they make excellent liquid manure, put some in a string bag and suspend them in your water butt, and in a few weeks you have a nitrogen rich liquid feed for your crops, smelly, but very good!
In the spring the top leaves of newly growing nettles make an excellent soup, also full of iron,. Just a couple of tips you might find useful
