The Robot Hall of Fame: This is "Maria" from Fritz Lang's 1927 silent movie "Metropolis." (She actually never had a name, but is the created evil double of the film's heroine, Maria.

Notice the similarities between her and George Lucas' C-3PO from the Star Wars films fifty years later.
