Field Vole

This small bundle of fur caught my eye while I was sitting in the walled garden at Culzean Country Park in late afternoon.

I am not aware of ever having seen a vole before, at first I thought a small mouse, so only confirmed by searching Google.

It eats seeds, leaves and roots according to The Wildlife Trust. This Vole was nibbling grass at the edge of the lawn and used a flower bed for cover when discovered.
