Its a good day for Red headed Cardinal Beetles

After spending the morning in the gym followed by two hours in the hairdressers I wasn't sure where to go for a photo. Decided to visit a nearby meadow and found that it was a good day for mating for Red-headed Cardinal Beetles.

Its been a warm sunny day with quite a breeze and I stood watching a pair running up and down grass stems, they just didn't stop moving although joined together. I moved onto the nearby cow parsley flower heads and almost everyone had several joined pairs making the most of it. Some were moving their magnificent antennae around in swooping movements.

This joined pair were on thistle flowers. I watched as they moved around and then the female decided to bury her head down into the flower. Did she tell her mate it smells good down there cause he then moved a little so he also had his head in the flower.
