Forensics Class...again
My Master Class student is back for the next few weeks...interspersed with a couple of shows and foundry trips.
The task I've set for her is to replace the missing jaw of this victim. We can calibrate the measurements by a jaw we have already measured and plotted plus tooth placement and displacement; plus another few odds and ends we measure and tweak. This is the most interesting part...reconstruction of the boney parts. The majority of victims are missing the lower jaw if left in the open air or shallow grave. This skill can also be used for jaw replacement for living victims of explosions, car crashes, removal because of disease, etc.. We'll use the same wire mesh for all reconstruction. If we need to, we can use a 3-D printer to make a new jaw from this template. Interesting stuff and she's an eager student. I will watch my back in case of over-enthusiasm regarding skull collection....hmmmm....
