Another Languedoc year...

What a blast

Hail, torrential rain, gale force winds, unseasonably low temperatures and frequent showers. We've had it all in this first week of July.

It's been so wet that this morning I picked mushrooms from the orchard. Normally we'd do that in October. However, the wind was so strong it was threatening to break the branches of a young peach tree, so I picked those too. The wind had blown a couple of apples from a tree - windfalls usually wait until the end of September.

Still, the strawberries just love this weather and have been producing well for weeks and there's no sign of them giving up.

Who has seen the wind?
Neither I nor you:
But when the leaves hang trembling
The wind is passing thro’.

Who has seen the wind?
Neither you nor I:
But when the trees bow down their heads
The wind is passing by.
