River Alde at Snape Maltings

The sailing barge with a carvel built wooden hull in this photograph, is the 'Cygnet' built in 1881 by G H Curel at Frindsbury near Strood. Her first owner was a local farmer who used it to carry farm produce to Ipswich and Felixstowe. She remained in that family until 1945. She now has an inboard diesel engine and been refitted as a private yacht which is available for excursions.
Between the two vine clad buildings behind the Cygnet you can catch a glimpse of Benjamin Britten's Snape Maltings Music theatre. There is a walk along the towpath from Snape to Aldeburgh which I will endeavour to do soon. From there is a much better view of the theatre, which could be the potential for a future blip.
