We made it!
We found our way to a car park in Cambridge today and saw King's College Chapel, which was absolutely marvellous. It's so high and impressive, nearly all dating from the 1500's, including the stained glass. Despite a lot of groups of tourists being in there it still retains a wonderful atmosphere. A very special place!
We had a walk down to the River Cam at the back of the college and saw a lot of punts going along. It was probably a bit too cold to be that enjoyable today really. We had lunch at a high class establishment (McDonalds!) and then walked along to the Fitzwilliam museum. It's housed in a most impressive building, which is worth seeing without even seeing the displays! However we did have the energy to go and look at the Egyptian collection which was pretty amazing. We then went and had a cup of tea in their "courtyard" cafe, which had a huge gift shop. I bought a couple of books of photos of Cambridge and of East Anglia - which will be useful for our projected holiday in Suffolk next year. Well, why not - we've stayed in Norfolk and Cambridge already, so Suffolk next!
Stuart and I had a walk round Madingley village when we got back about 4 pm as I hadn't done that yet. We found a walk round a lake near Madingley Hall and then some lovely wild gardens and also topiary near the building. Madingley Hall is part of Cambridge University apparently. The sun came out for the first time in over 2 days and it was quite humid. The weird weather front from the North Sea has apparently caused this humidity.
We're off home tomorrow, and are popping in to see an elderly friend who used to be at our church, but who has moved to Essex to be near her son and family.
