Bus Challenge No 24!

Yesterday's bus challenge took me to London to see the Queen, and today saw me taking the bus to Tetbury to have lunch with Prince Charles in Tetbury!

The first bus of the day took me into Bath to pick up my next bus to the Cross Hands Hotel at Old Sodbury, (where the Queen sought shelter during a blizzard in 1981!) then a third bus to Tetbury.

"The town of Tetbury is in the Gloucestershire Cotswolds and is proud of its 1300 years of recorded history since 681 when Tetta's Monastery was mentioned in a charter by King Ethelred of Mercia. In the Middle Ages, Tetbury was an important market town for the Cotswolds wool trade and the town centre is still dominated by the splendid pillared Market House built in 1655. The town is known as an 'architectural gem' as many of the wool merchants houses still look as they did 300 years ago. Tetbury is well known for its 25 antique shops and its close proximity to Prince Charles's residence of Highgrove." www.cotswolds.info

This is one of Tetbury's many beautiful houses and stands at the top of Chipping Steps. "The Chipping, meaning market, was for centuries the site of the Mop Fairs where local farm hands, labourers, and domestic staff offered themselves for employment. Many of the surrounding buildings have medieval origins."

After a couple of hours of browsing the shops, lunch in the sun next to the Market House and visiting the beautiful parish church, it was time to repeat the bus journey in reverse. Yesterday I went home with a rucksack full of Christmas stocking presents from the National Gallery, today my rucksack was full of clotted cream fudge from the Highgrove shop!
