The Year of the Flood

Well, it's not really the 'year' of the flood, but there does seem to have been a fair bit of water around NZ this past year. It's also the name of a very good Margaret Atwood book!

Today it's pretty miserable again, so Mr S and I walked into town along the river to do some shopping, as it's our niece's first birthday in a few weeks so we needed to buy her a present. Buying children's presents usually involves us swooning over books that we had as children and/or looking for amazing titles of children's books. I think the best one I found today was called 'I need a new bum' (!), but we went for a Hairy Mclary book as we thought her mother would approve of this more.

This was taken on the light railway track that runs along the river, where some debris is still noticeable following the last couple of times that the river has flooded in recent months.
