Creating comfort
In Orange County we don't really get too cold...or too hot, too wet...or too dry. That's why we live here. This year, however, it's cold...and wet. I usually only have to wear long pants a few times each winter. I'm wearing them now along with a hooded sweatshirt. After working outdoors today in shorts, in the cold, pouring rain, I came home, soaking wet, chilled to the bone and longing to be comforted. Alas, there was no more firewood. The cold winter had exhausted our supply. But I must...I will... be comforted. I put back on my rain slicker and drove to a local lumber yard seeking firewood(we are urban locked without a forest for 50 miles). The lumber yard had firewood, however, the pallets were 4 inches too wide for my truck. I then drove to a local produce grower who also sells firewood and bought some oak and orangewood. Great wood that burns long and hot. The orange wood had to be imported from another county as there are no more orange groves in Orange County!
Within the hour I had a fire blazing, a bowl of clam chowder in front of me and a mug of hot buttered rum in my hand.
Comforted at last.
