time and tide
My final day down in Sidmouth.
Went for a walk along the beach at low tide. You can walk along stretches of the cliff inaccessible when the tide is in. While we strolled the cliff place cracked and trickles of rock fell to the beach. The cliff is eroding and has been battered by the winter storms earlier this year, when I was last down here.
These beach huts too were utterly smashed to pieces by large pebbles and driftwood lifted by the stormy sea and flung against them. Everything is restored to normal today. People splashing in the sea, rockpool rovers, kids playing cricket on the exposed hard sand, kayaking in the water, dog walking and Morris Dancing.
It felt a fitting tribute to my time here to have a final meal of fish and chips and mushy peas on the seafront. Now getting myself packed and organised and ready to head back up the road. A fond farewell Sidmouth, my dear friends. Time and tide wait for no-one.
