Two way traffic

The skies were busy above RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire today for the Royal International Air Tattoo. There were about 8 hours of incredible flying displays as well as a host of static aircraft displays and other stands.

The capability of some of the planes and helicopters is outstanding - they sometimes seem to defy the laws of Physics. The various acrobatic displays are always enjoyable - and this event marks the 50th year of displays by the famed Red Arrows, who are based at Fairford.

However, in this photograph, you can see the two way traffic in the sky as generated by the Italian Airforce Acrobatic Team, the Frecce Tricolori.

I had a lift from Bristol early this morning to the airfield, and returned home to Hertfordshire by train from Swindon in the evening. A long and tiring day, particularly given the intense sun and sticky heat - but the flying conditions were excellent, so we were very lucky.
