Loxwood Canal Barges
It still being very hot and humid, neither of us had much energy, but enough to go to the Garden Centre at Milford for lunch and then I made a brief stop at the Wey & Arun Canal Visitor Centre at Loxwood where this was taken. The boat nearest the camera is one of those used to take trips out on the restored stretch of the canal that is being very gradually restored by volunteers and will eventually link the Thames via the Wey Navigation and the South Coast via the Wey And Arun Canal of which this is part and the Arun Navigation.
The Visitor Centre sells a variety of items and stocks local tourist information and has filled in the gap left by the closure of some local tourist information centres. You can book trips on the boats and have lunch at the next door pub and the whole has become a very popular attraction. The canal has a good towpath that you can walk along and is home to a wide range of birds, insects and plants and is well worth a visit.
