Pink Is The Colour Sang The Green Floyd ;)

We sing, "Grasshopper Green was a comical chap", Grasshopper Ointment, favoured by my MIL, was green owing to its copper content. Grasshoppers are green (even their "blood" is green) or grass-coloured. Right? Not always.

We have an area between two disused glasshouses where I always find pink tinged grasshoppers, though I've never found a completely pink one.

This unusual and little-understood genetic mutation is called erythrism and is caused by a recessive gene similar to that which affects albino animals. It results in one of two things happening or even a combination of the two; a reduction or even absence of the normal pigment and/or the excessive production of other pigments, in this case red which results in pink morphs.

I used to hear music coming from his studio but never heard David Gilmour of The Pink Floyd singing Green Is The Colour when he used to live next door to us here in the seventies. :)
