It's a bugs life

The bugs were taking a battering from alternate spells of heavy rain and intense heat today.

There were some particularly tattered wings.

I was happy both yesterday and today to get pictures of the moth that these become. I didn't blip yesterday as the regatta is an annual event and the bugs will be there for a while. It was bugs or more cake today. I ate the cake.

I would like to know what this is about. Must do some research on their life cycle. Any ideas?
