Wood are still transported at Saimaa area on the waterways. Rafting has three important impacts. First, the wood is not transported on the road. One tugboat tows hundreds of truck loads at time. Secondly,the enviroment is saved. Tugboat's tons/liter- ratio is much better than trucks. Third, the fairways are maintained as long there is cargo transport on the lake. Also boaters benefit on that.
