A Books Life....

Two people never read the same book.....

Books about Town is in London this summer! There are 50 unique BookBench sculptures, designed by local artists to celebrate London’s literary heritage and reading for enjoyment. The BookBenches feature stories linked to London and will be auctioned off in October to raise funds.

This 'Fever Pitch' bench (Photographed) is placed near St Pauls and on it I found a couple of ‘Bookcrossing’ books, that were patiently waiting to be picked up to continue their exciting adventure ….

Can I just say, wow, I love this concept, of BookCrossing books. Think about it your book doesn’t want to spend its life on your shelf gathering dust; it wants to get out there and touch lives.

So all you have to do is register your book for free online and get a unique BookCrossing ID. This allows you to follow your book wherever it goes. Like a passport enabling your book to travel the world without getting lost!

You can leave you labelled book on a park bench on a summer day, in a train station, bus stop or even on the table in your favourite coffee shop. Someone will pick it up and off it goes. Once the book is with its new owner, they just input the books ID number online and update where the book is.

You can follow and read about your book’s new adventures!

I know there is an increasing number of kindle users out there, including myself, and I say the practical reasons are great! But concepts like this, that are so beautiful, make me think twice! As a lot of my friends say –‘there is something totally satisfying about turning a page in a book, smelling its age or feeling its history and soul through the torn or loose pages in it…
