It's that time again.
At least we've manage (If temporarily) to batter this thug into submission.
I'd really hate to see it completely gone, for a couple of reasons. (At least)
1. It cost a whole Fiver for it when it was, apparently, a single dry stick poking out of a 6" pot.
2. I like the bloody thug.
For those not familiar with ...
"Romneya coulteri
“Matilija Poppy”
“Fried-Egg Flowers”"
... the lens cap is for a 58mm lens.
Just looked it up. I'll not bore us all with its entirety, but it said ...
"Native to the Coast Ranges & coastal valleys of Southern CA & making a spectacular plant, 6-8' high & wide. Along the upper part of the thick gray-green stems are displayed huge (up to 9” across) slightly scented, white, crepe-papery, “poppy” flowers with glossy, yellow stamens."
Fortunately it never reached 8' in height, but the spread was nearer 8yds than 8', one year it crept under the fence, under a 2' paving slab and surfaced nearly a foot into the neighbours lawn.
N.B. to self.
Must remember to check back for previous sightings, this being the 1st flower this year.
