If you can't beat them...

Steller's Sea Eagle (Haliaeetus pelagicus)

This is Camilla a 22 month old female Steller's Sea Eagle. Steller'sare the heaviest Eagle in the world weighing up to 20 lbs Camilla is 18 lbs. She was part of an unusual bird of prey display being put on at the Kirkcudbright Country Fair. The "falconer" (I am not sure he should be called a falconer) flew only Vultures and Eagles. I would like to make it clear Camilla does not run on steam power the smoke is from the traction engine shown in yesterday's shot.

As the name implies Steller's feed mainly on fish with some water fowl seal carrion and even seal pups. They range from Kamchatka down to Korea and out to Japan.

Not the best of weather with occasional showers but that didn't seem to deter the visitors too much. The day was also highlighted by occasional visits to the area by wild kites something we don't get near us.

As an after thought I felt I ought to add that the beak is really that colour and size it makes the bird look a bit like a cartoon character when close up, which we often were being on the next door stand.
