This is The Machair.

Defined in the dictionary as Low lying strip of calcareous natural grassland overlying shell sand. This is generally seen in the west of the country and the Western Isles next to the beaches. Normally you walk through it to get to the beaches. It is often riddled with Rabbit warrens or scratchings. There is an abundance of insects, Bumble Bees etc, a lot of bird life as well. In a lot of the Machair, it gives off a lovely aroma in the spring and summer. There was a Gaelic Soap called Machair a lot of years ago on BBC TV. No longer though!
