The 6th Earl Of Dunmore
Had a wander with the boys today up on the Dunmore estate (home of the Pineapple). Wandering up past the ruined Elphinstone tower we came across a pile of dilapidated tombs, most of which were overgrown and in some cases vandalised. All were family members of the Earls of Dunmore. This impressive one was for the 6th Earl who died young on the 15th July 1846 (my birthday!!.. no not 1846....).
It would appear that even the "nobility" with their impressive tombstones are not immune to being forgotten.
More info here and here.
It would appear that one of the previous Earls was Governor of New York and Virginia around the time of the revolution. Should have kept a tighter rein on those bothersome colonialists ;)
