A very Russian new year

Happy New Year! Okay so it's a little late.. even for the Russian new year. Russians are in the enviable position of having two christmasses and two new years - the second christmas celebrated on the 14th of January.

Today I spent the afternoon at a celebration for Russian new year. I the absolute pleasure of listening to my mum and her Glaswegian Russian choir. The rumbling low voices of the bases make rich the perfect meandering harmonies. My Dad and I were late in typical fashion and spent time hovering outside the padded red doors of St Brides church listening and waiting for an opportune moment to sneak in the back.
