Portrait of Ms Leena McCall, Sitting
I sat down for a chinwag today with a controversial artist! Last week a bit of a kerfuffle blew up online and in the arts pages of the broadsheets about a painting called "Portrait of Ms Ruby May, Standing", taken down from a London gallery for being a little too revealing. Thus began a lively online debate about erotic censorship in the arts.
Well, the artist in question is friend and former colleague Leena! And it was very interesting to catch up with her today and get the inside scoop on what it's been like to be in the media spotlight. It sounds like a bit of an interesting experience actually. The painting even had its own Wikipedia entry by the end of the week. No such thing as bad publicity... ;-)
