Winter Wonderland
two or three feet of snow lying on the fround at the height of the cold snap. Temperatures reached -15 C. at night and roads were blocked, inspite of the fact that there was no wind, which was lucky as drifts of twelve feet or more could have been created cutting off this part of Scotland for a week or more.
Red grouse came off the hill and were seen in the fields as far away as Kelso. They were starving and could barely fly. The who;e episode is a bit of a disaster.
