Special Day
The Queen's Baton came to Millport today. Tristan Levie brought it from Largs on a RIB as the 5 skiffs raised their oars and many yachts and dinghies pootled alongside. Hundreds of people lined the jetty and road as the baton made its way through The Garrison grounds. The allocated 30 minutes lasted well over an hour and the five local baton bearers were all cheered and photographed. This is Jackie Wilson, my neighbour taking her turn.
Most special for me was that mum and dad were there to see it all.
All the entertainment was free and a BBQ was enjoyed by hundreds of folk. 750 burgers and 250 hot dogs were consumed in a few hours. Music, song, dance, drama, art exhibition and open day at the community garden made the day go with a bug buzz. A ceilidh and live band were on in the evening and the music could be heard into the wee small hours.
My friend Ange and her son Thom were there and it was a lovely surprise to see them. Thom was off to visit the Model railway - I hope it was good.
Such a splendid, action packed day with plenty lashings of sun. The pipe bands were out in force too.
A truly amazing day to remember.
