They All Laughed - And So Did We
I'm a fan of the LUSH cello quartet from Toronto, Canada. A few months ago, I wrote to Wendy Solomon, founder of the group and the talented arranger of all their music, to inquire about their touring schedule and whether they offered any of their tunes in sheet music form. Long story short, she explained that they typically do not sell their unique arrangements for four cellos, but would make an exception in this instance. So, that is how I acquired precious copies of They All Laughed (Gershwin), Viva la Vida (Coldplay) and Erev Shel Shoshanim (Yosef Hadar) lusciously arranged by Wendy Solomon for four cellos.
I recruited three of my fellow cellists from the Bayshore Symphony. It was no easy task coordinating all our busy schedules, even during summer, but finally, here we are. This is not a very good photo but, from left to right, Emily, Joan, Me, and Carol, our fearless leader.
We wound up working on these pieces for close to 3 hours and will continue to meet each Tuesday evening until summer comes to a close.
How did it sound, you ask? Beautiful!! (considering several of us were sight reading) Wendy Solomon's arrangements are a knock-out and I'm so pleased to have the chance to play this music.
One final thought: there must be an optical illusion happening in this photo because I am not that much shorter than Joan!
