Hobbs's Run

A Cautionary Tale

My friends, I bring you today a story of woe ... a tragedy of errors.

I had an afternoon snooze ... right? (poor old bloke) I eventually awoke to a vision of late afternoon light and the realisation that (as yet) I had secured no blip for the day. Whoops!! As I jumped out of my comfy recliner chair resolving to see if something could be achieved with the interesting light perceived through the loungeroom picture window, I dashed into the study, grabbed my ever reliable E-M5 and headed for the car in the drive.

I dashed up to Neate Park at Blackheath which has a reasonably clear view of happenings to the west, jumped out of the car, put the camera to my eye and commenced work .... sort of.

Oh my goodness! (or words to that effect) It won't focus. Why on Earth not? Oh. Silly duffer. I have the 12-50mm zoom set to macro from yesterday. Okay. Sorted. The light is fading.

Oh dear! (or an expression of not dissimilar meaning) There is NO memory card in the camera. Stupid twit. The memory card is in the card reader back home in the computer. Never mind. I have a spare memory card in the case. Right? Fixed. The light is still fading.

Oh bother! (or a mode of expression approximating that) This memory card is full from a month or two back. Never mind I shall erase the images and get started. The light fades some more.

@#$%@! I can't remember how to erase a card on this particular camera and besides. I've left my reading glasses on the desk and can't make out which is the menu button. The light is genuinely failing.

Eureka!!! Here is a button with a diagram on it resembling a garbage bin. I can just make it out. Lemme see. If I press the button like .... so! Aha!! I have erased two images (I think). Sorted. Time to shoot. The Light is just about AWOL

I arrive home with two images of the western sky hoping that one of them might be half way decent .... and look at them in the computer. Hang on! Why are they so grainy looking? ................ I remember now. Right after I finished shooting yesterday's X rated red capsicum, I fooled around shooting hand held with all the lights turned off .. didn't I??? The camera's ISO was set to 20,000 wasn't it?

"Hello. Is this the home for the bewildered?? Do you have a vacancy right now or in the near future?"
