Bright blue
Spotted this lovely little bright patch of bright blue lobelia in a crack in the pavement on my way back from lunch today, fighting to survive despite all the willow herb growing around it.
It made me think of my first job working in a garden centre / nursery where one of my jobs was pricking out thousands of lobelia seedlings to it into individual trays to grow and sell. Today was the funeral of Cliff who owned the nursery and was in essence my first ever boss.
Cliff was a very interesting character who as well as running the nursery and making bouquets and wreaths, played the church organ on Sunday mornings and was also a Munro-mad climber. He was rather chaotic in his paperwork and life but taught me a lot as well as helping me build fairly impressive biceps through carrying heavy bags of compost and building 100 foot wooden greenhouses! All at the tender age of 14-16
RIP Cliff
