Over the hills and far away
Okay, tomorrow I will come down from the hills (maybe) and do something different, but I couldn't resist one more walk up there today and this is the result. There is something about the quality of light high up and the blue-sky-white-cloud hot days just continue, though we're due for a change by the weekend.
The title is because last night was our choir summer concert, At War's Command, a series of folk songs and readings about war, soldiers and the results of war. When I see places like this blip from today I just think what it would be like to take off and walk for ever - over the hills and far away - and, although we didn't sing it last night I also think of the song Over the Hills & Far Away, a version of which was produced in 1706 by George Farquhar for his play The Recruiting Sergeant. You may remember it sung by brilliant folk singer John Tamm in the Sharpe series of the 1990s:
O’er the Hills and O'er the Main,
To Flanders, Portugal and Spain,
The king commands and we'll obey
Over the Hills and far away.
Sorry, this is a bit of a burble, isn't it? Best sign off now!
Enjoy your evening xx
