Tawny Owl egg

I went up to check the big owl box which has been unused for quite a while. I found two Tawny Owl eggs inside - so obviously they tried but failed - don't know why. I took an egg down for this photo - it had a small hole and so was quite light and a bit smelly and covered with flies.
