Pasterze glacier
This glacier is the largest one in Austria next to the Groß Glockner. It is 8km in length but is receding rapidly due to global warming. Hubby and I first saw this in 1999 on our first holiday together in Austria. We were amazed and horrified at the difference in length since then and even since we last visited 2 years ago. I remember wonderful textural patterns in the ice in 1999 but there is so little remaining on the surface now. However, extensive glacier still remains underground and measures 120m at its deepest point.
